When I was a child someone gave me this subtle machinery called kaleidoscope as a birthday present. I was enchanted with it for months. It was consisted of cylindrical box with mirrors, pebbles and colored pieces of glass inside. I didn’t quite understand how exactly it was working.
This knowledge was only increased my enchanting experience. When it is exposed to the light, this magical tube displayed most amazing square and triangular shapes and colors like vermillion, aquamarin, lawngreen, dodger blue and indigo.
Next few years I was trying to paint these images on paper using oil paints or collage techniques, but those attempts had not been often successful. These magical images have been very complicated to be painted, in comparison with those like art mediums. When I started to learn about digital art I found out that using fractal art techniques I can easily make this kind of kaleidoscopic images such as fractal images – “Astral compass” and “Apocalypse”.
I have kept this magical device to this day. Unfortunately, front glass was broken long ago. Still, it is interesting to observe shapes and colours of remaining colored pieces with a cracked glass in the background. I even tried to reproduce them in fractal images “Mandelbug” and “Shock wave 2”. For the image “Mandelbug” I had been used modified Mandelbrot set technique.
